Weather Affecting Mental Health

SAD and what it stands for  

The seasonal affective disorder is ironically shortened to the term sad. This typically occurs in the winter autumn months October November December periods.  

Seasonal effectiveness disorder affects around 20% of the population. This is usually experienced in the darkness of winter in the cold and there is no sunlight. Afternoon experiences such as tiredness, feeling down and unmotivated worst cases give one reason not to do anything which is how this links to a state of depression. This affects their well-being their social life keeping active and could also impact their work ethic 

Thoughts…. 

All agreed that the environment does affect our mental health. For example, things such as holidays and being in the sun makes us feel much happier and at peace. That’s why it’s all the destination popular holiday destination include exotic warm locations. However, coat and is with related to things being misery and dark that is related to often something negative. 

HERE ARE SIGNS THAT YOU MAY STRUGGLE WITH SEASONAL DISORDER? 

  • You tend to sleep a lot  
  • Little to no motivation  
  • No activity outside  
  • Low work ethic  
  • Isolation  

Does the weather affect your mood?

Sunlight is our main source of sympathising vitamin D which helps produce serotonin. This is responsible for us feeling happy. However, low levels of serotonin will leave us feeling down. Causing depression and higher stress levels there is a real psychological disorder Many researchers believe that less light causes imbalances 

Darkness increases sleep patterns related to then called melatonin people who are affected by this and they will start to oversleep. This could result in lower energy and no interest in things with a sluggish feeling and no longer do the daily things that they are used to doing.  

It is found that being in the Sun boosts one’s mood studies have found that sunny weather has many seeking more generous such  

Studies also sure that suicide peaks during the summertime among st people who work inside during the summer there was a peak increase in suicide rates 

Treatment such as light therapy. This is just exposure to light it is recommended each day you should stand outside for up to 30 minutes a day and it should be used mood boost your mood and you will feel a bit better than if you were to stay inside you will see improvement when you constantly go outside and outside meaning fresh air for the lungs whereas inside it is claustrophobic and toxic at times 

Light Therapy

Go outside for 15-30 mins usually in the mornings when it’s bright or just before midday where it is the brightest.  

Psychotherapy

Normal therapists that you can discuss this will treat you for the wintertime periods especially or offer remedies.  

Holistic self-care

Exercise, keeping active daily, finding hobbies during the winter periods that help boost mood or even as simple as again staying active in your home such as home improvement projects repair anything to keep the mind distracted.  

This is usually common between people the ages of 18-30  

I would say the weather is something that we cannot control to try and make it not affect you or not negatively impact your mood or even state of mind and work around it 

Related to this climate change? Is climate change making you depressed  

There is a study showing that climate change has indirect and direct effects on our mental health and well-being 

Things such as wildfires floods let’s try out the waves it is studies show that who people like to negatively affect by things such as heat waves it affects their moods anxiety is on arise as people are having no control over how other humans impact the planet and the rising levels of climate change are affecting people’s mental health.  

Eco anxiety? This is common worry among st young people to have concerns and worries of how the world is being kept in locked after and what’s going on with the panic and the uncertainty communities should help respond to the effects on people’s mental health things such as in schools it should be discussed there should be lighter shared upon it, we should teach in schools that  

we have the domain of the planets and we shall look after it.  

Final thoughts- during these periods it is best to keep out of your heads and in a space where it is easy to slip into a state of depression such as your bedroom where you can feel isolated and have little to no motivation and are busy and active. such as winter find activities with family and friends who are feeling the same they may also advise you on tips to get you out of that mood.
