Obsessive disorder is the most common psychiatric disorder 

Mental health is one of the most important aspects of human health and the need for its growth and prosperity. 

For this reason, providing, maintaining, and promoting mental health, increasing the ability to cope with life problems, the ability to establish and maintain healthy and sincere relationships with all kinds is particularly important. 

Obsessive disorder is one of the most common psychiatric disorders after anxiety and depression and affects about three percent of the population. 

Obsession and its dangers for mental health 

 As you know, obsession is a mental illness that bothers a person and those around him a, but it is not easy to quit. 

An obsession is a repetitive and harmful idea, though, feeling, or movement. The obsessive person realizes that the incident is dangerous for his personality and is aware of the abnormality of his behaviour. 

Obsession deprives a person of mental and behavioural balance and impairs him/her in adapting to the environment. 

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is one of the most well-known disorders among the mental illnesses, which is quite common, but unfortunately most people do not know much about it, and as soon as they hear obsessive-compulsive disorder, they remember someone who is, they wash too much while obsession is a disease that has different types and its main root is anxiety and can lead to shortening of life. 

The prevalence of this disease is from the age of twenty onwards and its basis coincides with puberty. 

According to psychoanalysts, obsessive disorder is an unconscious instinct in which a particular thought or belief is often wrong and deprives the individual of such a will that the patient acts against his will, knowing that his work is futile.

Other factors such as educational factors, behavioural and social, child humiliation, insecurity in childhood, excessive strictness of parents in raising children, reprimanding, and blaming the child can also provide the basis for obsessive disorder. 

Disorders associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder 

  • Peeling disorder(peeling) 
  • This disorder means chronic peeling of the skin that leads to significant sores, infections, and pain. Skin rashes are common in 1 to 2% of the population. 
  • Trichotillomania 

in this obsessive-compulsive related disorder, you have an ardent desire to pluck hair from the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or other parts of the body. This disorder usually treated with habit reversal training or cognitive-behavioural therapy. 

  • Physical deformity or self-loathing disorder 

This disorder is the preoccupation with physical defects or imperfections that are not visible or seem insignificant to others. 

Criteria for the disorder include repeating behaviours such as correcting or checking appearance, or psychological actions such as constantly comparing one’s appearance to others. 

  • Hoarding disorder 

Hoarding disorder is a special kind of behaviour that manifests itself by collection substantial number of items that seem to be of little value to others. This disorder causes severe disruption in a person’s personal home, so that place not suitable place to live. 

The intense stress that a person suffers from disrupts his work or social life. 

these People exposed to physical illnesses, their performance in various aspects of life affected and they suffer material and economic pressures. Hoarding disorder has features such as collecting, sorting, and placing items. The major difference between obsessive-compulsive disorder and hoarding disorder is that hoarders often do not know they have a serious disorder. 

Problems with obsessive-compulsive disorder 

  • Inability to work, school and university or social activities 
  • Difficulty communicating with others 
  • Low quality of life 
  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours 
  • Problems in marital relationships 

Control of obsessive -compulsive disorder 

  • Try to read more about obsessive-compulsive disorder and how to control it  
  • Recognize and avoid stimuli that exacerbate the symptoms of obsessive-disorder 
  • Avoid stress. Anxiety undermines your mental health 
  • Get enough sleep. Sleep deprivation causes stress and intensifies your obsessions. 

Makes sleep anxiety difficult, but sleep is essential for mental health. Instead of lying down and going to the world of thought, you should prepare a proper sleep routine. All conditions must provide for a comfortable and good sleep. 

  • Eat healthy diet. Eat nutritious foods without additives. 

More important than eating healthy foods is eating regularly. When you are hungry, it can make you tired or moody. 

Start with breakfast and try to eat more small meals instead of heavy lunch or dinner. It is also best to avoid caffein, this substance, found in soft drinks, coffee, tea, and energy drinks, can cause, or exacerbate anxiety. 

  • Do not use alcohol or drugs 

Escape from obsessive -compulsive disorder with the help of drugs and alcohol is tempting, but these substances provoke obsessive-compulsive disorder. Alcohol or nicotine may seem to reduce anxiety, but these substances cause more anxiety. 

  • Activity 

When we are anxious, our body releases a hormone called cortisol. Tiny amounts of this hormone help the body, but substantial amounts of it are harmful. Regular exercise keeps the levels of this hormone in the standard size.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is one of the most common psychological problems that many people struggle with. Although there is no definitive cure for this mental illness, there are many treatments and remedies that can improve the quality of life of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder.  

Finally, it should note that having a small symptom of obsessive-compulsive disorder. 

So, if you have symptoms of this disease and these symptoms have disturbed your life, go to a skilled psychologist or psychiatrist as soon as possible and ask him for help. 

Keep in mind that you should never self-medicate to control or treat obsessive-compulsive disorder and take medications related to this disease spontaneously and without a doctor’s prescription.
